IF YOU HAVE A DEPUY HIP IMPLANT, YOU NEED TO KNOW...
The FDA (Food & Drug Administration) in March 2011 posted a Class 2 Recall on the DEPUY ASR RESURFACING FEMORAL HEADS and for other DePuy hip implant products. Prior to that, on August 24, 2010, DePuy, a Johnson & Johnson company, issued an “Urgent Information – Recall Notice” to clinicians concerning the ASR™ XL Acetabular System/DePuy ASR™ Hip Resurfacing System.
DEPUY HIP RECALL
According to DePuy: “Because the new NJR data shows a higher than expected revision rate at five years, DePuy is issuing a voluntary recall of all ASR products. Reasons for revision identified within the datasets are consistent with those previously reported for ASR and include component loosening, component malalignment, infection, fracture of the bone, dislocation, metal sensitivity and pain.” Emphasis Added ( NJR - National Joint Registry of England and Wales)
DEPUY HIP IMPLANT METAL ION TESTING
Additionally, DePuy stated that, “…patients may develop progressive soft tissue reactions to metal wear debris. The debris can cause soft tissue damage which may compromise the results of the revision surgery. Early revision of poorly performing hip replacements that generate metal debris should give a better revision outcome. Therefore metal ion testing should be considered in cases where the surgeon is concerned about the hip replacement.” Emphasis Added HIP IMPLANT RECALL - WHAT YOU SHOULD DO NEXT
If you or a loved one have had, or need to have, hip revision surgery after having a hip implant using the DePuy ASR™ XL Acetabular System, call Hoey & Farina. A court order concerning hip implant recall litigation involving DePuy Orthopaedics Inc. states that all parties need to make every effort with medical practitioners to 'preserve explanted ASR Hip Systems components." Learn about your rights concerning hip implant recall recovery before releasing your extracted hip implant to DePuy for third party testing which could result in lost or destroyed evidence, and before signing any documents provided by DePuy’s third party claims processor, Broadspire.
